Om Nom Dessert Bar

Address: 187 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000 Australia

Opening hours: Breakfast: Daily (7am-12pm), Dinner & Desserts: Mon-Sat (6pm-12am)

It was a Saturday and the four of us (Mr. D, KS, Goon & myself) decided to visit the DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition that was held at ACMI in Federation Square. I came to know this place through KS over brunch. He casually told me that he heard and read that there is a new dessert place at Flinders Lane. I then asked what is the name of the place so that I can have a look at the menu. This is what I usually do whenever someone tell me about a new place that I should try out. I will  type the restaurant name in the Google search bar immediately and check out the restaurant menu. If the items on the menu sounds interesting and pique my interest to taste them, I will add them to my “To Eat” list. It is no wonder why my list is ever growing. I don’t think I could completely tick off all of the listed restaurants by this year without leaving a BIG hole in my wallet. 😦

Anyways, back to my review. After reviewing Om Nom’s menu, I was very much adamant that I have to try it out. Mr. D and I had an early dinner that day and I decided to try my luck on getting a table at the dessert bar at 6.00pm. I gave them a call and we were fortunate to get a table. KS & Goon did not join us as they already had dinner appointment with their friends.

Bergerac Restaurant

Address: 131 King Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 Australia

Opening hours: Lunch: Mon – Fri (from 12pm)

20140421_210651I think since about 4 years ago I’ve always wanted to visit Bergerac French restaurant but didn’t have the opportunity. I remember that I was reading food blogs, researching for places with tasty food. Then, I stumbled upon this restaurant. What’s so special about this restaurant you say? There were two items that caught my attention when I was browsing their online menu. My favorite Bouillabaisse and Bomb Alaska! Finally, on Easter Monday, my wish to dine in that restaurant has come true.

First of all, sorry for being absent from my blog for the past four weeks. I was extremely busy with my job and house hunting. It’s not easy to find a rental place in suburbs closer to Melbourne compared to regional areas like Geelong. It was a very frustrating experience as I found that most of the photos posted didn’t represent the current state of the house accurately when I went to inspect. It’s such a waste of my time. Anyways, fortunately now everything had been resolved and I can finally continue sharing my foodie stories with you.

Today, I would like to introduce you to a Japanese fusion restaurant called Gaijin. My friends Mei & Sheng brought me here for dinner and I had a ball at the restaurant. Our dinner started with seaweed salad and adegashi tofu. The seaweed salad is just my type of food, sourish and sweetish which is the perfect appetizer dish. This dish may look simple but contains great flavors and texture which made it my favorite dish of the night. Adegashi tofu was good as well with its crunchy skin and fragrant broth. The ahi tuna tartare (raw tuna cubes marinated in special sauce served with mango salsas and mango on nori tempura chips) was quite an interesting concept but somehow the taste was just average for me.

We were up in Melbourne last Saturday to do a bit of shopping. On the way there, we stopped by Seddon Deadly Sins cafe in Footscray for our brekkie. Finding a parking space was easy as there are plenty of free 2P parking lots around the area. As soon as we walked into the cafe, we were greeted by a friendly waiter, he ushered us to our table, and took our drinks order. We were then given a menu and it took me quite a while to decide what I wanted to eat as every item on the menu sounds very interesting and yummy. In the end, I decided to go with the Spanish eggs while Mr. D ordered the croquettes from the specials.

Boxing Day

Address: 125 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia.

Opening hours: 7 days a week (11 am – late)

2012-12-26-501

Mr. D and I spent our Boxing Day shopping with our friends (Goon, KS and HY) in Melbourne CBD. The first thing we do when we reached the city is to fuel up our tummies at Chin Chin, a restaurant that serves South-East Asian cuisine. This place is usually very busy and crowded with long queues, a common sight at the restaurant. However, this time we managed to walk in and obtained a table almost immediately. Thanks to the shopaholics and bargain hunters who were more than willing to forgo their lunch so that they could grab the items they want before they ran out. We, on the other hand, needed to charge up first. I couldn’t sacrifice my tummy as it is equally and possibly even more important than my shopping. 😛

After studying the menu, we decided to order the kingfish sashimi for entree. We absolutely adored this dish as not only the fish was super fresh, the combination of the sweetness of the fish, the sourness from the lime with the fragrance from the coconut and thai basil were just perfect!
